Trans Day of Visibility (TDOV) is Monday, March 31st. We’re gonna Trans the Town!!!!!! Join MiddPride for chalk, drag, fabulousness, and pure joy. Maybe bubbles. All are welcome. We're going to meet in gender-full outfits @ Triangle Park (fountain near gazebo) @ 4:15pm. Trans people are not going anywhere. Join us on Monday! Trans folks and our allies encourage silliness, community, and JOY.
Trans people are more visible than ever, but much of that visibility is hateful scapegoating and overtly discriminatory policies. Trans youth in particular are politically targeted. They/we deserve so much better. When asked how they wanted to celebrate TDOV, a bunch of local trans youth wanted to cover Middlebury's sidewalks in affirming chalk. So, we're gonna do just that. We need a bit of joy. Bring chalk. Wear something that makes you feel like you. Bring someone you love.
International TDOV was created in 2010 by trans advocate Rachel Crandall. Crandall, the head of Transgender Michigan, created TDOV in response to the overwhelming majority of media stories about transgender people being focused on violence. She hoped to create a day where people could celebrate the lives of transgender people, while simultaneously acknowledging that due to discrimination, not every trans person can or wants to be visible.
